Why are the numbers on a telephone keypad arranged the way they are?

Read an interesting and insightful article on how and why the telephone keypad was designed the way it is today. Surprisingly its simple, these guys at Bell Labs actually did create multiple versions prototypes and tested with people. The outcome was to be seen in the phones coming further.

    Extract:

The answers to these questions can be found in a fascinating piece of research performed by AT&T in 1960. I strongly encourage you, if you have time, to read their entire publication on the subject. A summary of this work was published in the July 1960 edition of the Bell Systems Technical Journal.

The article was entitled: Human Factors Engineering Studies of the Design and Use of Pushbutton Telephone Sets. You can download a copy of the article here [PDF].

  • Improving the Navigation Amazon Web Services

Improving the Navigation Amazon Web Services

Since AWS was launched in July 2002, there have been a ton of updates features and services added to it,

And since time as the services started to increase the Options on the AWS Console, began too-much to serve the purpose of an easy Navigation menu.

Here it is, how it looked with Lots of Services:

Clearly visible, the Navigation menu was overwhelming and I was really thinking that AWS must do something to clear this mess.

And as any product developer would be doing, AWS team were already working on it and I saw an option “Try our new navigation”, Now this was interesting, contrary to other service providers who enforce the changes to users (you know its Facebook, yes) AWS was asking users to try and then seeking feedback and then the adoption.

The new Navigation menu is amazing and serves the purpose,

Most importantly, you can Edit the Navigation as you wish and make the Shortcuts for the most used services at one-click.
